Basehor-Linwood is currently seeking an aide to work in our program for English to Speakers of Other Languages. This employee would work one-on-one with elementary students by helping them with reading, writing, listening and speaking English, in addition to their other subjects (math, science, etc).
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Functioning as a liaison between classroom teacher and student.
2. Assisting in communication between school and parents.
3. Preparing strategies and constructing materials for vocabulary learning and
regular lesson reinforcement under the teacher's and ESOL director's direction.
4. Assisting with record keeping tasks and data collection.
5. Participating in program inservice activities.
6. Assisting in required student screenings and assessments.
7. Attending a weekly meeting with other para(s) and the director.
8. Traveling to different buildings around the district to meet with students and teachers.
9. Performing other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to speak, read and write in English proficiently.
2. Ability to work effectively with children and other adults.
3. Sensitivity to the special needs of language - minority students.
4. Interest in and respect for a variety of cultures.
5. Basic knowledge of technology programs. (Word, google docs., i-Pad, mac laptop, etc.)
5. At least 18 years of age.
6. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
7. Physically able to move around building and accompany children.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Previous experience with teaching and/or learning a second language.
2. Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
3. Able to translate documents from English to Spanish.
3. Previous experience working with children.
4. College training in second language teaching.
