The Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative is accepting applications for a Special Education Paraeducator for Basehor Intermediate School for the 2024-2025 school year. The TBLSEC provides special education services to students in both the Basehor-Linwood and Tonganoxie School Districts.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Complete and pass a background check
- Awareness and acceptance of diversity in children and youth
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree
- Experience working with children and youth in a school setting
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of licensed/certified staff, all paraeducators perform tasks related to the instruction and supervision of students. A desire and ability to work with students is essential in this position. Assignment, essential duties and responsibilities may change from day to day depending on the needs of the district, building and students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the special education teacher with the implementation of students’ IEP goals by working with students individually and /or in small groups on specific learning tasks
- Monitor student behavior and assist in maintaining a positive and orderly classroom atmosphere
- Supervise students and provide for their safety in a variety of settings
- Implement student accommodations and/or modifications
- Implement positive behavior supports
- Interact with students in a kind and caring manner
- Provide personal care or assist students with the necessary self-help requirements in areas such as diapering, toileting, catheterization, etc. (Center Based Resource 1, Early Childhood, Structured Learning Classroom)
- Know and follow health, safety and emergency procedures of the district
- Work as a positive team member
- Work cooperatively and communicate successfully with teachers, related service providers and building administrators
- Demonstrate a commitment to the education of all children and youth
- Observe strict confidentiality regarding student and personnel information
- Adapt to a variety of working situations and be willing to learn new skills
- Demonstrate professionalism through conduct, punctuality and minimal absences
- Willingness to accept and perform other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.
