POSITION: Speech-Language Pathologist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess:   

  1. Current KDHE Speech-Language Pathologist license or would consider a Clinical Fellowship Year applicant
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO: Special Education Administrators and Building Principals 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist works as part of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate speech and language needs in students which impact education outcomes. They work to develop Individual Education Programs for students who qualify as well as provide therapy.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Works with students to increase age-appropriate articulation, language, social communication, fluency, and voice remediation services to children within the district who exhibit a delay or disorder in any of those areas. 
  2. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring students suspected as having speech/language impairments.
  3. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
  4. Provides screening to identify speech needs in children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  5. Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language needs.
  6. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  7. Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  8. Completes paperwork such as referral forms, eligibility paperwork, IEPs, and progress reports; invoices Medicaid for reimbursement for services provided. 
  9. Monitors the progress of assigned students’ therapy data.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1.     Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    2. Requires occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.

Term of Employment: 10 months (188 Days); Academic school year as assigned. 



Evaluation:  Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
