POSITION: SER TEACHER (ED/BD)
PURPOSE: The SER Teacher provides an optimal learning environment for students with social, emotional and behavioral needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid High Incidence Special Education Kansas license
- Experience working with children with mental health and behavioral concerns
- All required documents, including copy of license, on file at the district office
REPORTS TO: Special Education Administrators and Building Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitates student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academics, social skill awareness, appropriate behavior and problem solving.
- Collaborates with school teams (administrative staff, general and special education teachers, related service providers and paraeducators) in the planning and implementation of strategies and interventions for students with behavioral and/or mental health needs.
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Develops and implements IEPs.
- Collects and organizes data on student behavior and academic goals for progress monitoring and quarterly IEP progress reports.
- Holds annual IEP meetings and 3-year re-evaluation meetings.
- Communicates with parents regularly.
- Supervises the delivery of special education services by assigned para-educators.
- Adapts and modifies curriculum for specialeducation students in general education classes.
- Assists in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Implements BIPs for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student needs.
- Monitors student progress.
- Provides crisis intervention.
- Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of individual student IEPs and BIPs.
- Ensures activities conform to Federal, State and District regulations and/or guidelines.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by Special Education Administrators and Building Principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.
